Fingolimod

Uses

Fingolimod is used in the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS).

How it Works

How Fingolimod works Fingolimod is a sphingosine 1-phosphate receptor modulator. In multiple sclerosis, immune cells (lymphocytes) attack the nervous system, impairing its function. This medication works by reducing the number of lymphocytes in the body, preventing them from entering the brain and affecting the central nervous system (the brain and nerves). As a result, Fingolimod treats the condition and helps prevent any recurrence of the disease.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Fingolimod include flu, diarrhea, back pain, increased transaminase levels in the blood, and cough.
