How Estriol works Estriol contains a hormone called estrogen, which is a female sex hormone. It functions by replacing the estrogen that is normally produced by the body.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Estriol include headache, breast pain, irregular vaginal bleeding, bloating, abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, and hair loss.

- You have been prescribed Estriol as part of hormone replacement therapy to relieve symptoms of menopause.
- It may also be used to prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at high risk of fractures.
- Take it at the same time every day to help you remember to take it.
- Inform your doctor if you experience any of the following while taking Estriol:
- Unusual vaginal bleeding or spotting
- Abnormal vaginal discharge
- Vaginal discomfort
- Estriol may increase the risk of breast cancer; therefore, have regular breast examinations.
- Stop taking this medicine and inform your doctor immediately if you notice any of the following symptoms:
- Unexplained swelling and pain in your limbs
- Shortness of breath
- Chest pain
- Changes in vision
- These symptoms could indicate a blood clot in a vein.
