Dorzolamide

Uses

Dorzolamide is used in the treatment of glaucoma.

How it Works

How Dorzolamide works Dorzolamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor. It functions by reducing the production of aqueous humor (the fluid in the eye), thereby lowering elevated intraocular pressure.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Dorzolamide include a bitter taste, burning sensation, eyelid irritation, stinging sensation, eye itching, and watery eyes.

Expert Advice

  • Dorzolamide helps lower elevated intraocular pressure and reduces the risk of vision loss.
  • For optimal results, instill one drop in the affected eye(s) 2-3 times daily.
  • Apply gentle pressure on the inner corner of the eye (close to the nose) for approximately 1 minute immediately after administering the drop. This technique minimizes the risk of side effects.
  • Avoid touching the tip of the dropper to any surface or your eye to prevent contamination of the eye drops.
  • Remove contact lenses prior to using Dorzolamide, and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.
  • When using multiple eye medications, wait at least 5-15 minutes before administering the next medication in the same eye to prevent dilution of the active ingredients.
