How Dolutegravir Works
Dolutegravir is an anti-HIV medication that prevents the multiplication of the virus in human cells. This action stops the virus from producing new viral particles and helps clear the infection.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Dolutegravir include headache, insomnia (difficulty sleeping), dizziness, diarrhea, nausea, fatigue, muscle pain, and increased liver enzymes.
Expert Advice
- Take Dolutegravir with or without food, preferably at the same time every day.
- Do not skip any doses and complete the full course of treatment, even if you feel better.
- Avoid taking antacids or calcium supplements one hour before or two hours after taking Dolutegravir.
- Your doctor may regularly monitor your liver function during treatment.
- Inform your doctor if you notice any of the following symptoms:
- Yellowing of the eyes or skin
- Dark urine
- Stomach pain
- Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
