How Hydrocortisone and Dimethicone Work Hydrocortisone and Dimethicone is a combination of two medications: Hydrocortisone and Dimethicone. Hydrocortisone is a steroid that inhibits the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) responsible for making the skin red, swollen, and itchy. Dimethicone softens and moisturizes the skin while reducing itching and flaking.
