How Difluprednate and Gatifloxacin work Difluprednate and Gatifloxacin is a combination of two medicines: Difluprednate and Gatifloxacin. Difluprednate is a steroid that blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that cause the eye to become red, swollen, and itchy. Gatifloxacin is an antibiotic that kills bacteria in the eye by preventing their reproduction and repair. This combination effectively treats your infection.

Common side effects of Difluprednate and Gatifloxacin include eye irritation, watery eyes, and a burning sensation.

Expert Advice

  • Do not skip any doses and complete the full course of treatment, even if you feel better.
  • Apply pressure to the corner of the eye (near the nose) for approximately 1 minute immediately after instilling the drop.
  • If you wear soft contact lenses, remove them before applying these eye drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting your lenses.
  • Wait at least 5-10 minutes before administering the next medication in the same eye to prevent dilution.
  • A burning sensation may occur for 1-2 minutes; notify your doctor if it persists longer.
  • Ensure to use the medication within 4 weeks of opening the bottle.
