Didanosine is used in the treatment of HIV infection.
How it Works
Didanosine is an antiviral medication that prevents the multiplication of viruses in human cells. This action stops the virus from producing new viral particles and helps clear the infection.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Didanosine include headache, nausea, rash, vomiting, diarrhea, pancreatic inflammation, elevated serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase, elevated serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase, and increased lipase in the blood.

- In combination with other medications, it is used for the treatment of HIV infections.
- Take it with food, as this increases the absorption of the medication into the body.
- Didanosine may cause dizziness or sleepiness.
- Do not drive or engage in activities requiring concentration until you understand how it affects you.
- You may still develop infections or other illnesses associated with viral infection while taking this medication.
- You can also transmit HIV or HBV to others.
- Do not share needles or personal items that may have blood or body fluids on them.
- During treatment and for at least six months after discontinuing this medication, regular blood tests are necessary to monitor your liver function, levels of hepatitis B virus, and blood cell counts.
