How Diatrizoic Acid Works Diatrizoate meglumine belongs to a group of drugs known as iodinated radiopaque contrast media. It functions by coating the stomach, esophagus, or duodenum (a part of the small intestine) without being absorbed by the body, allowing these organs to be easily visualized in X-ray or CT scan examinations.

Common side effects of Diatrizoic Acid include vomiting and nausea.

- Do not use diatrizoate meglumine with metformin and propranolol, as it may cause serious side effects.
- Seek immediate medical attention if you develop severe reactions, seizures, difficulty breathing, or tightness in the chest.
- Inform your doctor if you have severe heart disease or swelling in the neck due to enlargement of the thyroid gland.
- Notify your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
- Patients who are allergic to diatrizoate meglumine or iodine should avoid this medication.
- Patients with an overactive thyroid gland should not be administered diatrizoate meglumine.
