How Dextrothyroxine Works Dextrothyroxine is a lipid-modifying agent that acts in the liver to enhance the breakdown (catabolism) of LDL, a type of bad cholesterol, into smaller subunits. This process leads to increased excretion of cholesterol and bile acids through the biliary route into the feces, resulting in a reduction in cholesterol and LDL levels.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Dextrothyroxine include nervousness, frequent urge to urinate, abdominal pain, hormone imbalance, allergic reactions, slow growth in children and teenagers, diarrhea, hair loss, skin rash, headache, heart attack, increased body temperature, increased sweating, indigestion, insomnia (difficulty sleeping), erythema (skin redness), tremors, weight loss, chest discomfort, arrhythmia (irregular heartbeats), and chest pain.
