How Ofloxacin, Dexamethasone, and Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose work Ofloxacin, Dexamethasone, and Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose is a combination of three medicines: Ofloxacin, Dexamethasone, and Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose. Ofloxacin is an antibiotic that kills bacteria by preventing them from reproducing and repairing themselves. Dexamethasone is a steroid medication that blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that cause redness, swelling, and itching in the eye or ear. Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose is a lubricating agent that moistens the eyes or ears.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Ofloxacin, Dexamethasone, and Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose include eye irritation and eye discomfort.

Expert Advice

You have been prescribed Ofloxacin + Dexamethasone + Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose for the treatment of bacterial infections of the eye/ear.
Do not skip any doses and complete the full course of treatment, even if you feel better.
Avoid touching the tip of the applicator to any surface, including your eye/ear, to prevent contamination.
Consult your doctor if:
- Your symptoms do not improve within two days of starting treatment.
- Your symptoms worsen during treatment.
- You experience another eye/ear infection.
If using Ofloxacin + Dexamethasone + Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose for the eye:
- Wait at least 5-10 minutes before administering the next medication in the same eye to avoid dilution.
- Do not wear contact lenses while using this medication.
- It may cause short-term blurring of vision when first used. Use caution before driving or operating machinery.
