Darbepoetin alfa is used in the treatment of anemia associated with chronic kidney disease and anemia resulting from chemotherapy.

How Darbepoetin alfa works Darbepoetin alfa is an erythropoiesis-stimulating agent (ESA). It works by stimulating the bone marrow, the soft tissue inside the bones that produces red blood cells, to increase the production of red blood cells.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Darbepoetin alfa include high blood pressure, rash, injection site pain, breathlessness, cough, peripheral edema, procedural hypotension (low blood pressure), convulsions, and thromboembolism.
