How Sertraline and Clonazepam Work Sertraline and Clonazepam is a combination of two medications: Sertraline and Clonazepam. Sertraline is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant. It works by increasing the levels of serotonin, a chemical messenger in the brain. This improvement in serotonin levels enhances mood and alleviates physical symptoms of depression. Additionally, it helps relieve symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, and anxiety. Clonazepam is a benzodiazepine that increases the action of a chemical messenger called GABA, which suppresses the abnormal and excessive activity of nerve cells in the brain.
