Cidofovir is used in the treatment of cytomegalovirus infection.

How it Works

Cidofovir works by inhibiting the cytomegalovirus, preventing it from replicating and spreading.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Cidofovir include protein in urine, nausea, vomiting, fever, decreased white blood cell count (neutrophils), weakness, headache, rash, infection, hair loss, diarrhea, pain, increased creatinine level in blood, anemia (low number of red blood cells), decreased appetite, chills, cough, and fungal infection of the mouth.

Cidofovir is used in the treatment of herpes, chickenpox, and shingles.
Do not skip any doses and complete the full course of treatment, even if you feel better.
Drink plenty of water while undergoing treatment with this medicine to help prevent dehydration and kidney damage.
If you have genital herpes, use barrier methods (condoms) for contraception and avoid sexual contact while sores are present.
