Metoprolol Succinate and Chlorthalidone are used in the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure).

How it Works

How Metoprolol Succinate and Chlorthalidone work Metoprolol Succinate and Chlorthalidone is a combination of two blood pressure-lowering medications: Metoprolol Succinate and Chlorthalidone. Metoprolol Succinate is a beta blocker that specifically targets the heart to reduce heart rate and enhance the heart's efficiency in pumping blood throughout the body. Chlorthalidone is a diuretic that lowers blood pressure by eliminating excess water and certain electrolytes from the body. Over time, it also relaxes blood vessels and improves blood flow.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Metoprolol Succinate and Chlorthalidone include nausea, constipation, diarrhea, fatigue, headache, dizziness, slow heart rate, increased blood uric acid, decreased potassium levels in the blood, glucose intolerance, altered blood lipid levels, cold extremities, decreased magnesium levels in the blood, and increased calcium levels in the blood.

Expert Advice

  • It is a combination of two blood pressure-lowering medications used for the treatment of high blood pressure.
  • It can be taken with or without food.
  • Do not stop taking Metoprolol Succinate + Chlorthalidone suddenly, as this can cause your blood pressure to rise abruptly, increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke.
  • It may cause dizziness. If this occurs, get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position.
  • It can mask symptoms of low blood sugar if you are diabetic; therefore, monitor your blood sugar levels regularly.
  • Metoprolol Succinate + Chlorthalidone may cause dehydration. Drink plenty of fluids and inform your doctor if you develop extreme thirst, muscle weakness, or a very dry mouth.
