How it Works
How Sucralfate, Silver Sulfadiazine, and Chlorhexidine Gluconate work Sucralfate, Silver Sulfadiazine, and Chlorhexidine Gluconate is a combination of three medicines: Sucralfate, Silver Sulfadiazine, and Chlorhexidine Gluconate. Sucralfate is an anti-ulcerant that forms a coating over the affected skin surface, creating a physical barrier that protects the skin from further injury and allows it to heal. Silver Sulfadiazine is an antibiotic that inhibits bacteria from producing folic acid, a vitamin necessary for bacterial multiplication. Chlorhexidine Gluconate is an antiseptic and disinfectant that effectively cleans cuts, wounds, and burns to prevent infection.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Sucralfate, Silver Sulfadiazine, and Chlorhexidine Gluconate include rash, skin irritation, and decreased white blood cell count.
Expert Advice
- Clean the burn area thoroughly.
- Apply the cream using a sterile gloved hand or a sterile spatula.
- Apply the cream once or twice daily.
- Reapply to any areas from which the cream is removed due to activity.
- Ensure that burn areas are covered with the cream at all times.
- Minor burning, stinging, or irritation may occur upon application.
- Inform your doctor if these sensations persist.
- Avoid contact with your eyes, nose, or mouth.
- If the cream accidentally gets into these areas, rinse it off with water immediately.
