Uses
Polymyxin B and Chloramphenicol are used in the treatment of bacterial eye infections.
How it Works
How Polymyxin B and Chloramphenicol work: Polymyxin B and Chloramphenicol is a combination of two antibiotics. These antibiotics function by either killing bacteria or inhibiting their growth in the affected area. Together, they effectively treat your infection.
Expert Advice
- Your doctor has prescribed Polymyxin B + Chloramphenicol to treat your eye infection and alleviate your symptoms.
- Use the medication twice a day (in the morning and evening).
- If your symptoms are particularly severe, your doctor may recommend using it up to four times a day.
- To avoid contamination:
- Do not touch the dropper tip or allow it to come in contact with your eye or any other surface.
- If it does, squeeze out two or three drops onto a tissue and rinse the tip with saltwater.
- Apply pressure to the corner of the eye (near the nose) for about 1 minute immediately after instilling the medication. This will help prevent the medication from draining out.
- Do not wear contact lenses until your infection has cleared up.
- Eye infections can increase sensitivity to sunlight. Wearing sunglasses may help mitigate this sensitivity.
- In addition to using Polymyxin B + Chloramphenicol, apply a warm compress to your eyes for relief from itching and burning sensations.
- Take precautions to avoid spreading the infection:
- Avoid transferring the infection from one eye to the other.
- Do not share towels or pillows with others.
- Wash your hands regularly, especially after touching your eyes.
