Levodopa, Carbidopa, and Entacapone Uses Levodopa, Carbidopa, and Entacapone are used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease.
How Levodopa, Carbidopa, and Entacapone work Levodopa, Carbidopa, and Entacapone is a combination of three medications used to treat Parkinsonism. Levodopa is a precursor to dopamine, a chemical messenger that controls movement in the brain. Carbidopa is a peripheral decarboxylase inhibitor that prevents the breakdown of Levodopa, allowing it to enter the brain and increase dopamine levels. Entacapone is a COMT inhibitor that results in higher and more sustained levels of Levodopa in the blood, leading to greater relief from the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.
Common side effects of Levodopa, Carbidopa, and Entacapone include urine discoloration, headache, dry mouth, insomnia (difficulty sleeping), anxiety, dizziness, abnormal dreams, involuntary muscle movements, and gastrointestinal disturbances.
