Bortezomib is used in the treatment of multiple myeloma and mantle cell lymphoma.
How Bortezomib works Bortezomib is an anti-cancer medication that functions by inhibiting or slowing the breakdown of proteins in cells. This leads to an accumulation of certain proteins in cancer cells, ultimately resulting in their death.
Common side effects of Bortezomib include fungal infection, anemia (low red blood cell count), breathlessness, decreased white blood cell count (neutrophils), dehydration, high blood pressure, itching, erythema (skin redness), gastrointestinal bleeding, herpes zoster, pneumonia, motor neuropathy, orthostatic hypotension (sudden drop in blood pressure upon standing), dry skin, edema (swelling), low platelet count, decreased white blood cell count (lymphocytes), lymphopenia, decreased potassium levels in the blood, decreased sodium levels in the blood, and decreased calcium levels in the blood.
