How Ciprofloxacin, Betamethasone, and Phenyl Mercuric Nitrate work Ciprofloxacin, Betamethasone, and Phenyl Mercuric Nitrate is a combination of two medicines: Ciprofloxacin and Betamethasone. Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic that kills bacteria by preventing them from reproducing and repairing themselves. Betamethasone is a steroid medication that blocks the production of certain chemical messengers (prostaglandins) that cause the eye to become red, swollen, and itchy.
