How Besifloxacin works Besifloxacin is an antibiotic that functions by inhibiting the action of a bacterial enzyme known as DNA-gyrase. This action prevents bacterial cells from dividing and repairing, ultimately leading to their death.

Common side effects of Besifloxacin include eye pain, eye irritation, eye itching, blurred vision, and conjunctival redness.

  • You have been prescribed Besifloxacin for the treatment of bacterial infections of the eye.
  • Do not skip any doses and complete the full course of treatment, even if you feel better.
  • Apply pressure to the corner of the eye (near the nose) for about 1 minute immediately after instilling the medication.
  • Avoid touching the tip of the dropper to any surface or your eye to prevent contamination.
  • Wait at least 5-10 minutes before administering the next medication in the same eye to prevent dilution.
  • Short-term blurring of vision may occur when first using the medication.
  • Exercise caution before driving or operating machinery.
  • Do not wear contact lenses until your infection has cleared.
  • Ensure to use the medication within 4 weeks of opening.
