How Bempedoic Acid and Ezetimibe Work Bempedoic acid and ezetimibe is a combination of two different medications used to lower cholesterol levels. Bempedoic acid inhibits an enzyme called ATP citrate lyase, which is involved in cholesterol synthesis in the liver. Ezetimibe, on the other hand, blocks the absorption of cholesterol from the small intestine. Together, these actions result in lower cholesterol levels in the body.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Bempedoic acid and Ezetimibe include upper respiratory tract infection, cramps, increased uric acid levels in the blood, back pain, abdominal pain, bronchitis (inflammation of the airways), pain in extremities, anemia (low number of red blood cells), increased liver enzymes, diarrhea, joint pain, sinus inflammation, fatigue, and influenza.
