How Azithromycin and Dexamethasone work Azithromycin and Dexamethasone is a combination of two medications. Azithromycin is an antibiotic that works by preventing the synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions. This action stops the bacteria from growing and prevents the infection from spreading. Dexamethasone is an anti-inflammatory medication that inhibits certain chemical messengers, such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes, to reduce inflammation (redness and swelling) of the eyes. In this way, Azithromycin and Dexamethasone treat conjunctivitis.

Common side effects of Azithromycin and Dexamethasone include eye irritation.

  • Azithromycin + Dexamethasone must be used according to the dose and duration recommended by your doctor.
  • If you wear soft contact lenses, remove them before administering these eye drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting your lenses.
