Atezolizumab is used in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer and melanoma.

How it Works

How Atezolizumab works Atezolizumab is a type of monoclonal antibody. It works by blocking the activity of a protein located on T cells, which are a type of white blood cell that regulates the functioning of the immune system. In the presence of Atezolizumab, the killing power of T cells is restored, and the immune response is stimulated to locate and destroy cancer cells.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Atezolizumab include fatigue, cough, breathlessness, decreased appetite, urinary tract infection, infusion site reaction, decreased levels of thyroid hormones, hyperthyroidism, low blood platelets, decreased potassium levels in the blood, decreased sodium levels in the blood, increased glucose levels in the blood, hypotension (low blood pressure), headache, increased aspartate aminotransferase, increased alanine aminotransferase, hepatitis (viral infection of the liver), gastrointestinal disturbances, colitis, abdominal pain, voice changes, oropharyngeal pain, rash, itching, dry skin, joint pain, back pain, musculoskeletal (bone, muscle, or joint) pain, increased creatinine levels in the blood, weakness, and flu-like symptoms.
