How Apomorphine Works Apomorphine functions by stimulating the action of dopamine, a chemical messenger in the brain essential for controlling bodily movements. By mimicking the effects of dopamine, it aids in treating poor coordination or loss of bodily movements in patients with Parkinson's disease.

  • You have been prescribed Apomorphine to treat your symptoms of Parkinson's disease and/or restless leg syndrome.
  • It can be taken with or without food; however, taking it with food may reduce nausea.
  • Inform your doctor if you develop compulsive behaviors that are difficult to control, such as:
    • binge eating
    • gambling
    • spending money
    • sexual urges
  • Avoid activities that require alertness, such as driving, until you know how this medication affects you.
  • When you first start taking Apomorphine, it may cause a sudden drop in your blood pressure when changing positions.
  • To reduce the chance of feeling dizzy or fainting, rise slowly after sitting or lying down.
  • Consult your doctor if you experience hallucinations or other changes in behavior.
  • Do not stop taking the medication suddenly without consulting your doctor.
  • For restless leg syndrome, take this medicine 2 to 3 hours before bedtime.
