Anti Rh D Immunoglobulin is used in the treatment of Rh incompatibility during pregnancy and to prevent hemolytic disease of the newborn.

How Anti-Rh D Immunoglobulin Works Anti-Rh D immunoglobulin is a type of medication classified as an immunoglobulin. It eliminates or neutralizes any fetal rhesus-D positive red blood cells that enter the rhesus-D negative maternal bloodstream during childbirth, abortion, or any incident or intervention during pregnancy that may cause bleeding across the placenta.

  • Take measles, mumps, and chickenpox vaccinations at least 3 weeks before or not until 3 months after.
  • You may experience allergic reactions, which can be:
    • Minor: itching, skin rash, transient fall in blood pressure
    • Severe: chest pain, wheezing, breathlessness
  • Patients who are allergic to anti-Rh D immunoglobulin or any of its ingredients should not receive anti-Rh D immunoglobulin.
  • Anti-Rh D immunoglobulin is indicated for Rhesus-positive patients and for patients in whom the spleen has been removed.
