How Irbesartan, Chlorthalidone, and Amlodipine Work Irbesartan, Chlorthalidone, and Amlodipine is a combination of three medications: Irbesartan, Chlorthalidone, and Amlodipine. Irbesartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) that relaxes blood vessels by blocking the action of a chemical that typically constricts them. This action lowers blood pressure, allowing blood to flow more smoothly to various organs and enabling the heart to pump more efficiently. Chlorthalidone is a diuretic that lowers blood pressure by eliminating excess water and certain electrolytes from the body. Over time, it also relaxes blood vessels, further improving blood flow. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that helps normalize blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels, thereby reducing the pressure on them and enhancing overall blood circulation.
