Amlodipine + Atorvastatin

Uses

Amlodipine and Atorvastatin are used in the treatment of high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

How it Works

How Amlodipine + Atorvastatin works Amlodipine + Atorvastatin is a combination of two medications: amlodipine and atorvastatin, which treat high blood pressure associated with elevated cholesterol levels. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker (CCB) that works by relaxing blood vessels, making the heart more efficient at pumping blood throughout the body. Atorvastatin is a lipid-lowering medication that blocks an enzyme (HMG-CoA reductase) necessary for cholesterol production in the body. This action lowers "bad" cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides while raising "good" cholesterol (HDL). Together, they reduce the risk of heart disease.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Amlodipine and Atorvastatin include nausea, diarrhea, fatigue, peripheral edema, nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the throat and nasal passages), joint pain, and abnormal liver function tests.

Expert Advice

  • Take the medication at the same time every day to maintain a consistent level of the drug in the body.
  • Do not skip any doses and complete the full course of treatment, even if you feel better.
  • Be aware that it may cause dizziness during the first few days of treatment.
  • Avoid driving or engaging in activities that require concentration until you understand how Amlodipine + Atorvastatin affects you.
  • Your doctor may assess your liver function before starting treatment and continue to monitor it regularly thereafter.
  • Inform your doctor if you notice signs of liver problems, such as:
    • Stomach pains
    • Unusually dark urine
    • Yellowing of the skin or eyes
  • Notify your doctor if you have kidney disease, liver disease, or diabetes before starting treatment with this medication.
  • If you are diabetic, monitor your blood sugar levels regularly, as Amlodipine + Atorvastatin may cause an increase in blood sugar levels.
