Methyl Salicylate is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that blocks the release of certain chemical messengers responsible for pain and inflammation, including redness and swelling. Menthol is an extract from peppermint that provides a cooling effect on the skin. Alcohol serves as a preservative and aids in the proper absorption of the medicine into the skin. Together, these components work to relieve pain.
