Side Effects

Common side effects of adenosine include breathlessness, lightheadedness, dizziness, nausea, numbness, chest tightness, flushing of the face, and peripheral neuropathy (tingling and numbness in the feet and hands).

  • Avoid food and drinks containing caffeine, such as chocolate, coffee, and tea, for at least 12 hours before using the medication.
  • Stop taking the medication and inform your doctor immediately if you experience:
    • Slow heartbeat
    • Severe chest pain
    • Very low blood pressure
  • Inform your doctor if you have a history of:
    • Seizures (fits)
    • Heart problems
  • Notify your doctor if you are:
    • Pregnant
    • Planning to become pregnant
    • Breastfeeding
  • The medication is administered as a rapid injection into a vein by a doctor or healthcare professional.
