Paromits 20mg Tablet is a controlled-release (CR) or prolonged-release (PR) tablet containing Paroxetine 12.5mg, a medication belonging to the class of drugs known as Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs). It is primarily used to treat various mental health conditions by helping to restore the balance of a natural substance (serotonin) in the brain. The controlled-release formulation is designed to release the medication slowly and steadily into the body, helping maintain stable drug levels throughout the day. It may reduce common side effects, particularly nausea and dizziness. This medication is prescribed for conditions such as major depressive disorder, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and social anxiety disorder.
Paromits 20mg Tablet (Paroxetine) is an antidepressant medication formulated for sustained action. The Controlled-Release (CR) or Prolonged-Release (PR) technology means the active ingredient, Paroxetine, is released gradually over many hours instead of all at once. This slow release is crucial because it provides a more consistent level of the medicine in your bloodstream, which can lead to better symptom management and fewer peaks and troughs, potentially resulting in better tolerability.
Paroxetine works by increasing serotonin levels in the brain, a key neurotransmitter often referred to as a "feel-good" chemical. By blocking the reuptake (reabsorption) of serotonin by nerve cells, more of it remains available to transmit messages, which helps to improve mood, sleep, appetite, and energy levels. It can also decrease fear, anxiety, and unwanted thoughts.
It is crucial to understand that Paromits 20mg Tablet does not work instantly. The full beneficial effects on mood and anxiety may take several weeks (typically 2 to 4 weeks or longer) to become noticeable. Treatment must be consistent, and the tablet should be taken at the same time each day as directed by your doctor.
Paromits 20mg Tablet is indicated for the treatment of various psychiatric and mood disorders:
Side effects are often most noticeable when starting the medication and usually lessen over time. Report any persistent or severe side effects to your doctor.
Common Side Effects (Usually Mild and may lessen with continued use):
Serious Side Effects (Stop taking the medicine and seek urgent medical attention if you experience):
Pregnancy
CONSULT DOCTOR. Paroxetine carries potential risks. Use is generally avoided during the first three months of pregnancy due to a small increased risk of birth defects. Only use if the benefit clearly justifies the risk.
Breastfeeding
CONSULT DOCTOR. Paroxetine passes into breast milk in small amounts. Monitor the infant for changes in feeding or sleep.
Alcohol
AVOID. Alcohol can increase the sedative effects of Paroxetine and worsen depression/anxiety symptoms.
Driving
CAUTION. This medication can cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurred vision, especially when starting treatment. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how it affects you.
Diet
Take with or without food. Avoid grapefruit juice, as it can occasionally interact with drug metabolism.
Elderly Patients
CAUTION. Older adults may be more sensitive to side effects (especially confusion and dizziness) and may require a lower starting dose.
This medicine may require caution or should be avoided if you have specific health problems:
The specific daily dose is highly individualised and determined by a psychiatrist or doctor.
An overdose of Paromits 20mg Tablet is a medical emergency. Symptoms may include extreme drowsiness, severe nausea/vomiting, fever, rapid heart rate, tremors, confusion, and, in severe cases, Serotonin Syndrome or coma. If an overdose is suspected, seek emergency medical care immediately.
If you miss a dose of Paromits 20mg Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose entirely and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for the missed one.
