Lecope-AD Tablet

Lecope Ad Tablet is a combination medicine used to relieve symptoms of cough, cold, and allergic conditions. It contains ambroxol, a mucolytic that helps thin and loosen mucus; levocetirizine, an antihistamine that reduces allergy symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, and watery eyes; and phenylephrine, a decongestant that relieves nasal congestion. Together, these ingredients help improve breathing, reduce mucus buildup, and provide relief from cold-related discomfort.

Lecope Ad Tablet combines three medicines that each work differently to address a range of upper respiratory symptoms that often occur together during a cold, flu, or allergic episode.

Ambroxol is a mucoactive agent and the active metabolite of Bromhexine. It works by stimulating the bronchial glands to produce thinner, less sticky mucus, while also improving the activity of the tiny hair-like cilia that line the airways and sweep mucus upward and out. This dual action makes mucus easier to cough up and clear naturally, reducing the chest discomfort and persistent cough that accompany mucus-heavy respiratory infections. Ambroxol also has mild local anaesthetic properties that may soothe airway irritation.

Levocetirizine is the active R-enantiomer of Cetirizine and one of the most selective second-generation antihistamines available. It works by blocking histamine H1 receptors in the nose, throat, and eyes, preventing histamine from triggering the sneezing, runny nose, nasal itching, and watery eyes associated with allergic rhinitis and upper respiratory infections. Because Levocetirizine has a low tendency to cross the blood-brain barrier, it causes significantly less drowsiness than older antihistamines, making it more suitable for daytime use.

Phenylephrine is a selective alpha-1 adrenergic agonist. It acts on sympathetic receptors in the blood vessels of the nasal lining, causing them to constrict. This reduces swelling of the nasal mucosa, lowers nasal airway resistance, and relieves sinus pressure and stuffiness, physically opening the nasal passages to improve airflow and breathing comfort.

All three components are well absorbed after oral administration. Levocetirizine is minimally metabolised and primarily excreted by the kidneys. Ambroxol undergoes hepatic metabolism with renal excretion of its metabolites. Phenylephrine is extensively metabolised in the gut wall and liver before reaching systemic circulation.

Management of throat irritation and cough caused by excess mucus dripping from the nasal passages into the throat.

More Common Side Effects

• Dizziness or light-headedness

• Mild drowsiness, though less likely with Levocetirizine than older antihistamines

Less Common Side Effects

• Vomiting or abdominal discomfort

• Mild palpitations or slightly increased heart rate, associated with Phenylephrine

• Difficulty urinating, particularly in older men with prostate enlargement

• Mild increase in blood pressure

• Skin rash or itching (pruritus)

Serious Side Effects

• Significant increase in blood pressure (especially in people with hypertension)

• Palpitations or fast heartbeat (tachycardia) due to phenylephrine

• Severe dizziness or fainting

• Urinary retention (particularly in patients with prostate enlargement)

• Excessive drowsiness or impaired alertness

Take Lecope Ad Tablet exactly as your doctor tells you. It may be taken with or without food, though taking it with a light meal may help reduce any stomach discomfort. Take each dose at evenly spaced intervals throughout the day to maintain consistent symptom relief. Do not take more than the prescribed dose or use it for longer than recommended.

Ambroxol stimulates the bronchial glands to produce thinner, less adhesive mucus and enhances mucociliary activity, making airway secretions easier to clear. It may also provide mild local anaesthetic relief to the airway lining.

Levocetirizine selectively blocks peripheral histamine H1 receptors, preventing histamine from triggering allergic upper respiratory symptoms, including sneezing, rhinorrhoea, and nasal itching. Its low tendency to penetrate the blood-brain barrier means it contributes minimal sedation at therapeutic doses.

Phenylephrine stimulates alpha-1 adrenergic receptors in the nasal mucosal vasculature, causing vasoconstriction that reduces mucosal swelling, nasal congestion, and sinus pressure.

Together, these three mechanisms provide complementary multi-symptom relief across both the upper and lower respiratory tract.

• Use for Short-Term Relief Only: Lecope Ad Tablet is intended to relieve symptoms while the underlying illness resolves. A persistent or worsening cough, ongoing nasal congestion, or new symptoms beyond 7 days should be evaluated by a doctor.

• Stay Well Hydrated: Drinking adequate fluids during treatment supports Ambroxol's mucolytic action by keeping the airways moist and helping the body clear thinned mucus more effectively.

• Tell Your Doctor About All Your Medicines: Phenylephrine interacts with MAOIs and certain blood pressure medicines. Always share a complete and up-to-date list of all medicines, supplements, and herbal products with your prescribing clinician before starting Lecope Ad Tablet.

• Be Cautious If You Have Heart or Blood Pressure Conditions: Phenylephrine may raise blood pressure in susceptible individuals. Patients with hypertension, cardiovascular disease, or hyperthyroidism should discuss this medicine with their doctor before use.

• Use Care in Older Patients: Elderly patients may be more sensitive to the anticholinergic effects of antihistamines and the cardiovascular effects of Phenylephrine. Medical supervision is especially important in this group.

• Food: Lecope Ad Tablet may be taken with or without food. A light meal may help reduce the chance of nausea or gastric discomfort.
• Alcohol: Alcohol may worsen any residual drowsiness from Levocetirizine and impair coordination. It is best avoided during treatment.
• Fluids: Staying well hydrated actively supports the mucolytic action of Ambroxol and is beneficial during treatment.
• Caffeine: Caffeine may partially offset mild sedation from Levocetirizine but does not affect the mucolytic or decongestant components.

• MAOIs (Severe — Contraindicated): Combining Phenylephrine with monoamine oxidase inhibitors is strictly contraindicated and may cause a dangerous hypertensive crisis. A minimum 14-day washout period after stopping an MAOI is required before starting Lecope Ad Tablet.

• Antihypertensive Medicines (Moderate): Phenylephrine may reduce the blood pressure-lowering effect of antihypertensive agents. Patients on blood pressure treatment should use this combination under medical supervision.

• Other Antihistamines or CNS Depressants (Moderate): Combining Lecope Ad Tablet with other sedating antihistamines, benzodiazepines, or sleep medicines may compound drowsiness and impair alertness.

• Tricyclic Antidepressants or TCAs (Moderate): May enhance both the cardiovascular effects of Phenylephrine and the anticholinergic effects of Levocetirizine, increasing the risk of palpitations and urinary retention.

• Certain Antibiotics, including Amoxicillin and Erythromycin (Mild — Beneficial): Ambroxol may enhance the penetration of certain antibiotics into bronchial secretions and lung tissue. This is generally considered a clinically useful interaction in respiratory infections and should be noted by the prescribing clinician.

• Other Sympathomimetics (Moderate): Concurrent use with other medicines that stimulate sympathetic receptors, such as pseudoephedrine-containing products, may compound the cardiovascular effects of Phenylephrine.

• Hypertension or Cardiovascular Disease (High Risk): Phenylephrine may raise blood pressure and should be used with caution or avoided in patients with uncontrolled hypertension or significant heart disease.

• Prostatic Hyperplasia or Urinary Retention (Moderate Risk): The anticholinergic properties of antihistamines may worsen urinary flow difficulties in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia. Use with caution in this group.

• Closed-Angle Glaucoma (Moderate Risk): Both Levocetirizine's anticholinergic properties and Phenylephrine's sympathomimetic action may increase intraocular pressure. This combination should be avoided in patients with closed-angle glaucoma.

• Hyperthyroidism (Moderate Risk): Phenylephrine may worsen cardiovascular symptoms in patients with uncontrolled hyperthyroidism. A medical assessment is needed before use.

• Renal Impairment (Moderate Risk): Levocetirizine is primarily renally excreted. Dose adjustment is required in patients with significantly reduced kidney function to prevent drug accumulation.

• Asthma (Moderate Risk): While Ambroxol may support mucus clearance, Lecope Ad Tablet is not a bronchodilator and should not replace prescribed asthma therapy. Use in asthmatic patients requires medical oversight.

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not take two doses at the same time. Since Lecope Ad Tablet is used for short-term symptom relief, a missed dose may simply mean a brief return of symptoms. If symptoms become difficult to manage, speak with your doctor.
