Lenvatinib is used in the treatment of thyroid cancer.
How it Works
How Lenvatinib works Lenvatinib is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor. It functions by blocking the supply of oxygen and nutrients to cancer cells, resulting in their growth cessation.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Lenvatinib include diarrhea, high blood pressure, protein in urine, anemia (low number of red blood cells), heart failure, liver toxicity, decreased calcium levels in the blood, thyroid disorders, and renal failure.
Expert Advice
- Lenvatinib is used for the treatment of thyroid cancer.
- Take it with or without food, preferably at the same time each day.
- Diarrhea may occur as a side effect; drink plenty of fluids and inform your doctor if it persists or if you notice blood in your stools.
- Use a reliable contraceptive method to prevent pregnancy while taking this medicine and for one month after discontinuation.
- Monitor your blood pressure regularly while on this medication.
- Inform your doctor if you experience symptoms of very high blood pressure, such as:
- Severe headache
- Confusion
- Vision problems
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- It may cause serious bleeding problems; inform your doctor if you experience:
- Headaches
- Stomach pain
- Blood in your urine or stools
- Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding.
