How it Works
How Iohexol works Iohexol is a member of a class of drugs known as radiographic contrast agents. It enhances imaging due to its high iodine content, which attenuates the X-ray beam during examinations.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Iohexol include nausea, vomiting, headache, back pain, neck pain, stiff neck, neuralgia, and fever.
Expert Advice
- Stay well hydrated before consuming any contrast media to prevent potential kidney damage.
- Inform your doctor if you have diabetes, cancer, pheochromocytoma (adrenal gland tumor), a blood disorder (such as sickle cell anemia), a thyroid disorder, or a history of seizures (epilepsy), heart disease, multiple sclerosis, or alcoholism.
- Seek immediate medical attention if you experience chest pain radiating to other parts of the body, headache, or numbness after receiving iohexol.
- Notify your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
- Patients with an allergy to iohexol or any of its components, as well as other iodinated contrast media, should avoid its use.
- Patients with any local or systemic infections that may lead to bacteremia, or those receiving medications such as corticosteroids when the contrast media is administered intrathecally (within the layers of the spinal cord), should avoid taking iohexol.
