Uses
Eflornithine is used in the treatment of facial hirsutism.
How it Works
Eflornithine works by inhibiting the activity of a chemical that is involved in the production of facial hair.
Side Effects
Common side effects of Eflornithine include acne, itching, erythema (skin redness), hair loss, burning sensation, stinging sensation, dry skin, rash, paresthesia (tingling or pricking sensation), irritation, and hair follicle inflammation.
Expert Advice
- Eflornithine should be applied twice daily to the affected area.
- Before each application, wash the affected area with soap and water and dry thoroughly.
- Maintain a gap of at least 8 hours between each application.
- Avoid washing your face for a period of 4 hours after application.
- Prevent contact with the eyes, mouth, or nose.
- If accidental contact occurs, rinse the affected area with cold water.
- Consult your doctor if your skin condition has not improved after 4 months of treatment.
- Do not discontinue use of the medication without consulting your doctor, as this may result in the resumption of hair growth.
