Aztreonam Uses Aztreonam is used to treat severe bacterial infections. It is effective against infections in various parts of the body, including the urinary tract, blood, brain, ear, skin and soft tissue, abdomen, bone, windpipe, and lungs.

How it Works

How Aztreonam works Aztreonam is an antibiotic that kills bacteria by preventing them from forming the protective covering (cell wall) necessary for their survival.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Aztreonam include rash, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, and injection site reactions such as pain, swelling, and redness.

Expert Advice

You have been prescribed Aztreonam for the treatment of bacterial infections.
It is administered via injection or infusion into a vein or into a muscle in the buttock or thigh.
Complete the prescribed course, even if you begin to feel better.
Stopping the medication early may cause the infection to return and become more difficult to treat.
Diarrhea may occur as a side effect but should resolve once your course is finished.
Inform your doctor if diarrhea persists or if you notice blood in your stools.
Contact your doctor immediately if you develop an itchy rash, swelling of the face, throat, or tongue, or experience breathing difficulties while taking this medication.
Notify your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to conceive, or breastfeeding.
